Academics: Health/Physical Education > Physical Education Class
The Souderton Area School District Elementary Physical Education Curriculum is based on six district standards.
These standards are:
- Physical Fitness Concepts
- Physical Fitness Demonstration
- Injury Prevention and Treatment
- Nutritional Needs
- Drug Education
- Cooperation and Leadership Skills
Students are assessed in each of the three trimesters according to their effort in physical education, for which they can earn a plus, X, or minus on the progress report. They also earn a competency assessment for demonstrating the district physical education standards (Kindergarten students are assessed ONLY in the second and third trimesters). Competency indicators include an 'S' for students who are strongly in place regarding the standard, a 'P' for students who are progressing towards the standard, and an 'N' for the students who need strengthening regarding the standard.
In addition to the effort and competency indicators, students in third, fourth and fifth grade complete a benchmark assessment that is reported in the third trimester using the following system: EX -exceeds the benchmark, ME-meets the benchmark, AP-approaches the benchmark, BE-beginning the benchmark.
