Academics: Library

The Souderton Area School District offers a K-12 School Library Media Program aimed to ensure that students graduate as competent, critical and ethical users of many types of information. Our goal is to prepare lifelong learners and information literate citizens who are able to determine their information needs, recognize relevant information, solve real-life problems and effectively communicate the results of their research.

The Elementary School Library Media Program offers classes in Library Skills to every student at least one time per week. Beginning in Kindergarten, students learn how to independently search for and check out books on topics that are of interest to them. The emphasis in the elementary program is on effectively finding, understanding, and using information, as well as developing an appreciation of literature. The Library curriculum is coordinated with the classroom teachers to ensure relevancy of content.

The Secondary School Library Media Program works in partnership with students, teachers, and administrators through the use of skills and content learned throughout the K-12 Library Skills continuum. Upon graduation, students will be able to:

  • Actively use and enjoy literature to develop their imagination and thinking processes
  • Grow, adapt, and master the changes that technology brings to life
  • Become socially empowered in the management of media and how it inundates life
