Academics: Wellness (Health/Physical Education)
Students will be exposed to many different wellness (health/physical education) skills and concepts that promote the necessity for regular physical fitness and health throughout elementary school. By incorporating standards from the district, state, and national levels, the programs established at each school will allow students to experience a broad range of developmentally appropriate and sequential activities that foster the use of the mind and body in an effort to improve their knowledge of, and ability to enhance overall wellness. *Appropriate footwear is essential to a student's safety and ability to participate in all wellness activities. As such, students should wear sneakers on days when they have P.E. (flat, rubber-soled, able to be secured via laces or Velcro are ideal; Crocs, Heelies, sandals/flip-flops, dress shoes, loose-fitting skate boarding sneakers, and open-toe/back shoes create safety concerns for the students and as a result, they won't be able to fully participate in all scheduled P.E. activities.
*Jewelry, such as watches, necklaces, and hoop earrings should be left at home/in the classroom during time in the gym. Stud earrings that don't go past the earlobes are acceptable. Accommodations/exceptions will be made regarding jewelry of religious or cultural significance on a case-by-case basis.
The mission of the Souderton Area School District Physical Education Department is to provide overall health and wellness education for all students, accomplished through a comprehensive and sequential program that is developmentally appropriate and promotes the value of being physically active for a lifetime.
