Arrival / Dismissal Procedures

There are a few items NEW THIS YEAR (2018-2019) so please review these instructions.

Due to the nature of our school, we have a number of students who walk, ride bikes, take the bus, or are car riders. We ask our parents to assist in making sure all students arrive and get home safely from school. The SAFETY of our students is paramount and requires the cooperation of all parents.

Vehicles dropping off and picking up students must use the main school parking lot. The rear parking lot is designated for buses and permit parking only. No one should ever park in a different location (ex. Lions Gate or West Broad Street) during designated student pick-up and drop-off times. During these times the parking lot is for drop-off and pick-up only.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Times:

Morning Drop-Off: 8:20 – 8:45 am – students are NOT permitted into the building prior to 8:20 am unless for a club or music lesson. If your child(ren) are arriving after 8:45, you must sign your child(ren) in at the office. Please park your vehicle in a parking spot and come into the building. Do not leave your vehicle unattended and running at the curb.
Morning Kindergarten Pick-Up: students are dismissed at 11:30 am; pick up is along the curb of the main parking lot. If you are picking up after 11:40, you must park and come into the office to pick up your child(ren).
Afternoon Kindergarten Drop-Off: 12:30 – 12:40 pm – students are dropped off at the curb by the front doors and enter through the Kindergarten playground gate.
Afternoon Pick-Up: car riders are dismissed at 3:15 pm – all students being picked up must be picked up by 3:35 pm. Any students remaining after 3:35 must be picked up from the lobby. Please park your car and come into the lobby to sign your child out.

For safety purposes during car rider drop-off and pick-up:

When picking up your child(ren), post your car placard in view so you can be identified as an approved driver. Complete the Car Rider Form in order to obtain a placard.
Please refrain from parking on West Broad Street or at Lions Gate and allowing your child(ren) to walk to your car. This causes unnecessary congestion at the street and is not safe for your child(ren).
All vehicles should form a single lane when entering the main parking lot and remain in the line until the vehicle reaches the curb area in front of the school. Please do not get out of line.
For efficient drop-off have your child(ren) ready to get out of the vehicle when you stop. If when picking up you need to adjust seating, pull forward to the Kindergarten playground area after picking up your child(ren) and make any necessary adjustments at that time.
Students will enter and exit at the curb directly in front of the main doors. Please do not park in the parking lot and have your child cross the parking lot.
Parents must remain in the vehicle at all times. A WBS adult on duty will assist your child(ren) into/out of your vehicle.
You will be instructed to pull forward at which time you should pull as far forward as possible along the curb in front of the doors.
Remain in line and exit the parking lot in the order in which you entered

It is important that you complete and return the WBS Elementary Car Rider Information form (English | Spanish) if you will be picking up your child(ren) on a regular basis. Once completed, you will receive a placard to place in your car that must be visible during pick-up. This allows the adult on duty to know which vehicle is for which student. If you do not have your placard during dismissal time, you will be asked to pull forward to the Kindergarten playground area where a teacher will confirm the student may indeed be picked up by you. Please have your driver’s license ready if you do not have your placard. This is to ensure the safety of all students during dismissal.

Walkers:
As we have a number of students who walk to and from school, we ask that parents communicate with your child(ren) safe walking procedures.
Teach your child(ren) how to walk safely to and from school.
Be a good role model when walking with your child(ren) at other times outside the school day.
Please have your students cross West Broad Street where the crossing guard is located. The crossing guard is located at West Broad Street and Hunsberger Lane. It is not safe to cross in a different location. We ask for your assistance in instructing your child(ren) to cross at the crossing guard.
Remind your child(ren) that they should be walking and not “goofing” around when walking home. This means child(ren) should not be running out in front of cars or walking on the street.
Remind your child(ren) to cross at crosswalks.

Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the safety of our child(ren).
