Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Due to the nature of our school, we have a number of students who walk, ride bikes, take the bus, or are car riders. We ask our parents to assist in making sure all students arrive and get home safely. The SAFETY of our students is paramount and requires the cooperation of all parents. We anticipate a larger than usual number of car riders this school year. The main parking lot is used for car rider drop off and pick up. The rear parking lot is designated for buses, walkers, and bike riders. No one should ever park in a different location (ex. at Lions Gate or on West Broad Street) during designated student pick-up and drop-off times. Your patience during the arrival and dismissal is greatly appreciated.

Please remember to complete the Car Rider Form (English | Spanish) in order to receive your car placard.

Arrival / Dismissal Times

Morning Arrival: 8:30 – 8:45 am – students are NOT permitted into the building prior to 8:30 am. If your children are arriving after 8:45, you must sign your children in at the office. Students must be in their classroom when the bells rings.
Morning Kindergarten Dismissal: students are dismissed at 11:30 am; pick up is along the curb at the Kindergarten playground.
Afternoon Kindergarten Arrival: 12:30 – 12:40 pm – students are dropped off at the Kindergarten playground gate.
Afternoon Dismissal: dismissal begins at 3:15 pm. Car riders are dismissed at 3:16 pm – all students being picked up must be picked up by 3:40 pm.

Communicating Changes to Dismissal

Any changes to how your child is going home must be called into the office prior to 3:00 pm that day or a note sent in with your child in the morning. Please do not email the teacher; you must contact the office.
If a student is getting picked up early from school, pick-up is encouraged prior to 3:00 pm. If there is no note or contact made to the office, your child cannot go home a different way. We cannot take transportation changes from a student.

Late Arrival and Early Dismissal Procedures

Upon arrival, press the buzzer to the outer door and announce yourself. You will sign in/out your child at the podium in the vestibule. Please use a clean pen from the bin and return it to the dirty bin. You will not need to come into the office unless asked to do so by the office staff. Your child will enter/exit through the hallway door. Only one family is permitted in the vestibule at a time and masks must be worn.
Students being sent home by the nurse will sign their child out at the podium and then wait for their child at the outside door opposite the main door.

Car Rider Drop-off and Pick-up Instructions

Car riders arrive using the main parking lot and form a line along the curb. No vehicle should park in a parking spot. Students must wait until they arrive at the entrance to exit the vehicle.
Students CANNOT be dropped off prior to 8:30 am. Doors will not open until this time. Students are not permitted to wait outside the entrance door or on the sidewalk prior to the doors opening; they must remain in the vehicle until the building opens.
During pick-up remember to place the car rider placard on your visor so it is visible to the staff on duty. This will speed up the pick-up process and identify you as an approved driver.
All vehicles should form a single line when entering the main parking lot and remain in the line until the vehicle reaches the curb area in front of the school. Please do not get out of line. Leave a travel lane open between parked cars and the car rider line so vehicles traveling through the parking lot can maneuver and exit the parking lot safely.
For efficient drop-off have your children ready to get out of the vehicle when you stop. If when picking up you need to adjust seating, pull forward to the Kindergarten playground area after picking up your children and make any necessary adjustments at that time.
Students will enter and exit at the curb directly in front of the main doors. Please do not park in the parking lot and have your child cross the parking lot.
Parents must remain in the vehicle at all times. A WBS staff member on duty will assist your children into/out of your vehicle.
You will be instructed to pull forward at which time you should pull as far forward as possible along the curb.
Remain in line and exit the parking lot in the order which you entered . Please do not pull around cars in line.

Walkers

As we have a number of students who walk to and from school, we ask that parents communicate with your children safe walking procedures.

Teach your children how to walk safely to and from school.
Be a good role model when walking with your children at other times outside the school day.
Have your children cross West Broad Street where the crossing guard is located (West Broad Street and Hunsberger Lane). If is not safe to cross at a different location.
Remind your children that they should be walking and not "goofing" around when walking home. This means children should not be running out in front of cars, walking on the street, or throwing objects at cars passing by.
